New Masters at Georgian

Georgian Downs has announced a new $700,000 (C)(est.) stakes program for Ontario-sired 4 year olds and up--“The Masters Series”--offering four separate events, covering each sex and gait with $100,000(C) finals for each. The series will be restricted to Ontario-sired horses.

“It’s an exciting program that we think our fans and horsepeople will love,” said Chris Roberts, Georgian Downs’ director of operations. “Essentially, it’s an extension of the Ontario Sires Stakes program for older horses. We’ve developed the idea with our local horsepeople and the reception has been fantastic.”

The Masters Series will take place over a 12-week period, beginning June 26. Each event will be comprised of two legs and a final, offering $100,000 added to each champion. A $1,000(C) nomination fee will apply.

“Our provincial sires stakes program is one of the best in the world–great rivalries are developed. We hope the Masters Series will become a hotbed for reunions,” said Roberts. “Along with the Earl Rowe Memorial, the Masters Series will be the cornerstone of our stakes schedule.”

As an added bonus, trainers of Masters Series champions will receive a 10-year exemption on nomination fees to the Masters Series.  The schedule for the inaugural Masters Series appears below:

  • H&G Pacers: June 26, July 3 & July 10 (Final)
  • F&M Pacers: July 17, July 24 & July 31 (Final)
  • H&G Trotters: Aug. 7, Aug. 14 & Aug. 21 (Final)
  • F&M Trotters: Aug. 28, Sept. 4 & Sept. 11 (Final)

For more information, stakes conditions or nomination forms, check out the Georgian Downs website at http://www.georgiandowns.com/stake-events.htm.  Nominations close for older pacing horses on June 1. (Georgian Downs)
