New Meadowlands Xanadu projects announced

Work on the 200-foot-high indoor snow dome is well underway at the Meadowlands Xanadu complex, and on Thursday developers announced several new attractions that will be part of the $2 billion project that is scheduled to open in November 2008. As the construction continues, mounds of dirt are prevalent around the Meadowlands’ racetrack, with the towering snow dome located off the first turn.

The snow dome, which is 160 feet wide at the top and 240 feet wide at the bottom, will also include a smaller “bunny slope.” The snow dome will be able to accommodate 300 skiers at one time.

Included among the newest tenants at the Xanadu project is a 33-story, 330-foot-high Ferris wheel, which will include 27 enclosed gondolas that have video screens that will provide information about nearby sights such as Manhattan or the new Meadowlands football stadium.

Also to be included are a 200,000-square-foot camping and outdoors store; a multi-screen movie complex, including an outdoor screen; a 59,000-square-foot kids’ role playing center; a Legoland Discover Center, which is a 48,000-square-foot, building block mini-city; a bowling alley/martini lounge; and MagiQuest, an interactive fantasy “realm” utilizing magic wands.

There are also preliminary plans to include a simulated skydiving venue, a trapeze school and a 30-foot-high chocolate waterfall.
