New Michigan champions

September 24, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Michigan’s Night of Champions took place Saturday over a sloppy oval, but most of the favorites didn’t let the less than perfect conditions keep them from their titles. Adam Victor & Son Stable won the first race on the card with a half sister to Mr. Muscleman.

Irene’s Lucky Lady captured the 2-year-old filly trot with an easy 4 ½-length score for driver Peter Wrenn. The filly is by the stallion Winky’s Pine and is out of Meadowbranch Irene, making her a half sister to the Victors' $3 million-plus winner Mr. Muscleman.

Wrenn came right back and took the 2-year-old filly pace, worth $122,066, with Princess Michi. James Schissler’s homebred filly by Artistic posted her fifth win in nine career starts, this one clocked in 1:59.1.

Driver Brad Kramer also steered two MSS winners, taking the 2-year-old colt trot with Benns Cowboy in 2:03.2 and the 2-year-old colt pace with Lunch Wagon Bob in 1:57. Kramer co-owns Benns Cowboy with Tim Hall while LRL Racing LLC owns Lunch Wagon Bob.

Billy Dobson drove Anneka Teka to a 2:01.3 victory—the filly’s sixth of the season—in the $120,184 championship for 3-year-old trotting fillies. J.D. Yoder owns and trains the filly.

Vince Copeland directed Faithfully to a wire-to-wire, 1:57.2 tally in the 3-year-old filly pace, giving the filly her seventh victory in 14 starts this season. Laura Latimer bred and owns the filly by Keystone Raider out of the Armbro Cadete mare Cheerfully.

Henry Wilson, a noted trotting trainer, captured the 3-year-old colt and gelding trot with Bumblebzspongebob, but they won by only a neck over Emery Ho. Wilson trains, drives and owns Bumblebzspongebob, who hit the wire first in 2:02.1.

The final race on the card was the $120,944 championshp for 3-year-old pacing colts and the betting favorite, Action Figure, prevailed in 1:58.2. Eric Goodell drove for LRL Racing LLC and Timothy Halstead.
