New PA commissioner

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell has announced the reappointment of Roy W. Wilt as chairman of the Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission. Rendell also announced the appointment of Richard J. Bolte Sr. to a commissioner spot vacant since the resignation of George Patterson earlier this year. They will make up the three-man Commission with present commissioner C. Edward Rogers Jr.



Wilt, a former GOP State Senator from Mercer County, was named to the commission by former Gov. Tom Ridge in 1997, and has served as chair since.



Bolte is the owner of a global shipping firm BDP International, with offices throughout Pennsylvania. He has been an owner and breeder of Standardbred horses for 25 years.



The Pennsylvania commission is presently in the process of hearing testimony for two new track applications. A one-day hearing on an application by Bedford Downs, one of two parties seeking the last Pennsylvania harness racing license, is scheduled for Nov. 30. After the evidence and arguments from Bedford Downs and competitor Valley View Downs is fully recorded, the commission will examine the records. It hopes to make a decision early in 2005.
