New Pa. yearling sale

May 03, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

In addition to its traditional early November sale in Harrisburg, Standardbred Horse Sales Company will be conducting a yearling sale featuring Pennsylvania-bred yearlings in Harrisburg during the last week of August in 2007.

Standardbred President Paul F. Spears said, “We are very pleased that we were able to secure the (Pennsylvania) Farm Show for this new venture. In addition to its well known central location, the Farm Show people have advised us that the yearlings will be housed in a newly air conditioned stable and will be selling out of the comfortable air conditioned small arena.”

It is expected that the initial sale will take place in one day and will include approximately 200 yearlings, with preference given to Pennsylvania-breds. The amount of stakes monies for Pennsylvania breds is expected to rank among the largest in the world once slot machines begin generate revenues for racing.

Hanover Shoe Farms, the world’s leading breeder, is expected to have a consignment of between 35-45 yearlings. Jim Simpson, Hanover’s president, said, “We are quite excited about the sale. We are very proud of the renaissance of harness racing in Pennsylvania and we are very pleased to be a significant part of it. In addition to selling at the new August sale, we expect to continue to sell significant consignments at the New Jersey Classic, the Kentucky Select Sale and, of course, Harrisburg in November."

The exact date of the sale will be announced in early 2007. For further information please contact Paul F Spears at pfspears@hanoverpa.com or Murray Brown at mbrown@hanoverpa.com; or call either at 717-637-8931.
