New purses for KY frosh

The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority has announced its new purse structure for the 2006 Kentucky Sire Stakes for 2 year olds. Through the assistance of the newly established Kentucky Standardbred Breeders Incentive Fund, the 2006 Kentucky Sire Stakes for 2 year olds has been restructured and will offer total purses of over $1,400,000.

Each division for 2 year olds, divided by gait and sex, will consist of three legs and a final. Each leg will have a minimum purse of $50,000, and if a leg is split into more than two divisions each division of that leg will have a minimum purse of $20,000.

Points will be awarded based on performance in each leg, and the top 10 point-earners will race for $200,000 in each division final.

Plans have been made for a similar structure for both 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds in 2007 and beyond.
