The Green Family Trust of Canfield, Ohio, has announced that the family trust will provide financial support to the four Standardbred Stakes raced each year at the Delaware County Fair.

“In a time of Ohio’s racing uncertainty, it is a great honor to be able to support Ohio’s single most important week of harness racing,” said John C. Green, director of the Green Family Trust.  “This is a great tribute to my  grandfather Arnold C. Green for his longtime contributions to the sport of harness racing.”

The new race will become the Arnold C. Green Memorial Standardbred Series.  “I appreciate the hospitality and enthusiasm displayed by Little Brown Jug Director of Racing Tom Thomson and Marketing Director Phil Terry.”

“We are pleased to have the Green Family Trust become involved in our stakes program,” said Thomson and Terry in a joint statement.  “Their additional support will help insure that top quality colts and fillies will continue to compete at Delaware. The Trust will provide direct purse increases to the Standardbred Series beginning in 2009.”

The Standardbred Series showcases some of the best two-year-old colts and fillies in North America.  Past winners have included Little Brown Jug winners Bret Hanover, Good Time and Overtrick and such noted trotters as Muscles Yankee, Peace Corps, Kerry Way, Nevele Pride and Lindys Pride.  The four Arnold C. Green Memorial Standardbreds will be raced on Jugette and Jug Day.

A. C. Green was a  lifelong Ohioan with a business career that spanned nearly 40 years.  Green always had an interest in harness racing and his family  maintains interests in both Standardbred and Thoroughbred racing. (Delaware County Fair)
