The  Empire State Harness Horsemen’s Alliance through its member organizations--the Harness Horse Association of Central New York (Vernon), the Saratoga Harness Horseperson’s Association; the Standardbred Owners Association of New York (Yonkers), the Monticello Harness Horsemen’s Association and the Western New York Harness Horsemen’s Association (Buffalo/Batavia)--has pledged a total of $23,500 to those victims of the Dec. 5 Lebanon Raceway barn fire which tragically killed 42 harness horses and two grooms.

Additionally, largely through the generosity of New York trainers, drivers and owners, more than $6,000 was donated by private individuals who raced over a four-day period at Yonkers Raceway. It is believed that at the remaining New York tracks similar efforts resulted in still more relief sent from individual horsemen.

Checks totaling in excess of $23,500 are being sent to the “Lebanon Horsemen Relief Fund.” Member presidents Rick Papa, George Karam, Joe Faraldo, Alan Schwartz and Bruce Tubin, respectively, all expressed thanks to their directors, members and the New York horsemen for coming to the aid of their fellow horsemen struck by this tragedy.
