The Meadowlands will be the stage for one of the greatest spectacles in sports in 2014. Late Tuesday the NFL announced that the 2014 Super Bowl will be held at the New Meadowlands Stadium even though the game will be played outdoors in the winter.
The New York-New Jersey bid beat out proposals from Tampa, Fla., and South Florida. According to reports, the decision to hold the game at the Meadowlands represents the leagues wish to embrace the New York entertainment, promotional and financial options.
According to a report on The New York Times web site, the New York Giants and New York Jets, who both play in the New Meadowlands Stadium, will not make any money off the Super Bowl. But the naming rights for the new stadium are available for purchase. The New York Times story did not say if the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority would realize any profits from the game or from the sale of the name of the stadium.
