It's not too often driver Ron Pierce returns a payoff of $43 when he directs one to the winner's circle, but he did those honors to Captain Holly's backers in the first of two $16,000 Night Styles divisions at the Meadowlands Wednesday night. It was a far different situation in the second split as Yannick Gingras guided 3-5 favorite Enhance The Night to her second straight victory.
Captain Holly was making her second start of the year since being off since last June, coming off a fourth-place finish for Pierce in the opening round of the Night Styles Feb. 21. Pierce once again got the call from trainer Greg Peck and he guided the 4-year-old daughter of Cambest to her maiden-breaking 1:53.1 win, with Flannel Yankee and favorite Up Front Jan-E-Lu finishing second and third, respectively. Captain Holly's dam, Wendyann Hanover, is a half sister to Western Hanover.
Perretti Racing Stable owns Captain Holly.
Enhance The Night won her opening Night Styles division by 2 3/ 4 lengths and this time around she had a two-length margin under the wire over runner-up Arizona Helen in 1:52.4. Bess Dress finished third.
A 4-year-old daughter of Western Ideal, Enhance The Night is owned by Perfect World Enterprises and trained by Erv Miller. A six-time winner last year, Wednesday's win was her second of 2007.
