The Anthony Abbatiello New Jersey Classic Eliminations brought fast last quarters to the Meadowlands racetrack Saturday, May 24.  Cold Cape Cod and Daley Deposit Only won their respective $25,000 eliminations in 1:52 and 1:51.4 respectively.

Daley Deposit Only, from post seven, got parked to the quarter leaving for the front but made it there by the half and held on to win by a nose.  Nearly the entire race closed in :26.4 or better but no one could quite edge out the Artiscape colt.  Eventual second place finisher Mr Nice Guy (Ron Pierce) got the pocket trip until the three-quarter pole, but came back to get up for place.  Meant To Be Me (John Campbell), parked throughout the race, came on to be third.

Daley Deposit Only is owned by Ann-Mari Daley, Jared Daley, Richard Lombardo and Robert Pergament.  The Classic was his first race of the year after being qualified at Pompano Park by his trainer, Daniel Daley.  Last year, the three-year-old colt made just over $22,000 in 11 starts with three wins and three third place finishes.

Cold Cape Cod won for the first time in his career in his elimination, posting a 1:52 win for driver David Miller and trainer Timothy Torbert.  Pacesetter Harley D Hanover (Yannick Gingras) set a :26.3 first quarter and closed in the same, but Cold Cape Cod scorched the track with a :25.4 last quarter to win by three quarters of a length.  Dear Mac (John Campbell) had the pocket trip and held on for third.

Robert Messick of Milford, DE owns the Artiscape colt who had yet to win a race but had made just under $124,000 last year.

The $500,000 New Jersey Classic Final will be held Saturday, May 31, along with it’s filly division, the $200,000 Miss New Jersey.
