The Associated Press reported that on Thursday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie met with 12 New Jersey lawmakers who represent Monmouth and surrounding counties that form the heart of New Jersey's horse racing industry, and told them to come up with solutions for saving horse racing in the state. Monmouth County is the home to Monmouth Park racetrack and picturesque Standardbred and Thoroughbred breeding farms.
According to the Associated Press story, which also includes coverage of the SBOANJ's meeting at the Meadowlands on Thursday night, options discussed included additional off-track wagering parlors, which each bring in an estimated $7 to $8 million a year, and renegotiated contracts with companies that provide the broadcast signal for races from other states.
