An upcoming summit on gaming and horse racing in New Jersey is showing promise that it might be a much more comprehensive study of the contributions of the racing industry to the state than the recent Hanson report, and how to save both. A comment from a state legislator whose district includes the Meadowlands racetrack, published in today's the Press of Atlantic City, indicates he plans to discuss saving both at the summit.
Sen. Ray Lesniak, D-Union, chair of the Senate committee for economic growth, represents the area that includes the Meadowlands. The Press of Atlantic City story quoted Lesniak as saying, "We want to support and save both, and can easily work that out."
The first meeting of the gaming summit is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the Atlantic City Convention Center, Room 411, One Convention Boulevard, Atlantic City.
