NJSEA's Zoffinger resigns

George Zoffinger, the president and CEO of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which operates the Meadowlands, has reportedly resigned his $195,000-a-year position as soon as a replacement is named.

The unexpected resignation comes reportedly during an ethics investigation that centers on whether Zoffinger violated conflict-of-interest rules by not disclosing that his son was an associate at the authority’s law firm. Zoffinger told the Newark Star-Ledger that “if it’s a mistake, it’s an honest mistake.”

Zoffinger said he had been contemplating retiring for some time and had offered his resignation to Gov. Jon Corzine in December. He said he will be moving to a farm in Pennsylvania.
