The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) has announced plans to open a new off-track wagering facility in Bayonne, located directly across the Bayonne Bridge from Newark International Airport, south of Jersey City and with a view of the Statue Of Liberty on its eastern border.

This will be the Authority’s second off-track wagering parlor, already operating one in Woodbridge. The new site, scheduled to open late next year, will be built on vacant land on Route 440 and include a restaurant and private party rooms.

"We're moving aggressively," NJSEA president and CEO Dennis Robinson was quoted as saying. "Woodbridge has been a huge success."

According to reports, the Favorites facility in Woodbridge is projected to generate $5.6 million in income this year, although current stats show that number could increase by 10 percent.

"Many Bayonne residents enjoy a night at the track and this exciting new facility, with its state-of-the-art simulcast capabilities, will bring the 'Sport of Kings' right here to us in Bayonne," Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith said in a statement.

The NJSEA has government approval to open as many as nine off-track wagering parlors. Reports indicate that discussions are underway in another city to open a third site.
