A pair of daughters of Western Ideal won opening round divisions of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Friday night at the Meadowlands.
Lightning D Dube, driven by his namesake, Daniel Dube, scored a head victory over Artcotic (by Artiscape) in 1:52.1 with another three lengths back to Southwind Rio (Artsplace) in third.
Owned by Glenn K. Berger’s Lightning Stable of Millstone, N.J., Lightning D Dube was unraced at two and making only her second career start. The $22,000 yearling purchase, trained by Anthony Mannino, has now banked $19,050.
Longshot Current Hanover drew off to a 2 3/4-length victory over 8-5 Platinum Hanover (Western Ideal) in 1:52.3.
