Primary AS and Biz Hub made it a Trond Smedshammer-trained exacta in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final for 3-year-old colt trotters on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Primary AS rolled off cover in the stretch and drew off to and 2 3/4-length victory over his stablemate Biz Hub in 1:56.1 over a "sloppy" track. Driven by Brian Sears, the son of Malabar Man notched his second win in three starts this season for the Kittelsen Racing Stable of Drammen, Norway.  He paid $4.60, $4 and $4 to win the fifth race while Biz Hub returned $7.40 and $5.40. Year In Review came from ninth at the top of the stretch to finish third and paid $4.80 to show.

Both Smedshammer colts are eligible to the $1.5 million Hambletonian on Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Meadowlands.

In the $175,000 event for fillies, Possess The Magic set the tempo and easily repelled the challenge of Gerri’s Joy to win in 1:56.2 for the team of driver Mike Lachance and Ron Gurfein. The daughter of Self Possessed improved her record to 11 wins in 16 career starts. She has now banked $805,013 for owner and breeder Brittany Farms of Versailles, Ky.

Possess The Magic paid $5.20, $3.80 and $2.60 to win the evening’s seventh race.  Apecs, the longest shot in the race, closed in a brisk 27.3 seconds to finish three-quarters of a length behind Possess The Magic. She paid $20.80 and $5.60 to place. It was a length back to Gerri’s Joy, who was no match for the winner. She paid $2.40 to show.

Among the races on Possess The Magic’s dance card this season is the $750,000 Hambletonian Oaks on Saturday, Aug. 4.
