Tasty Max capitalized on a second-over trip and held off a late-surging Blue Mac Lad by a neck to win a New Jersey Sire Stakes division at the Meadowlands Thursday night in 1:56. Two other splits were won by Make You Mine (1:55.1) and DC's Piggy Bank (1:55.1)

Tasty Max was driven by John Campbell. “He had a good trip,” the Hall of Fame driver said. “He was second-over into the stretch. He wasn’t real solidly gaited through the stretch, but he stayed on stride enough and kept going forward enough to win.”

Trained by Paul Wojtowicz, Tasty Max has four wins in eight starts this year, along with one second and one third. He increased his earnings to $36,225.

“He’s been a pleasant surprise,” Wojtowicz said. “I’m just happy he’s doing as well as he is. I hope it continues one more week in the [NJSS] finals.”

Tasty Max, a gelded son of Donerail, is owned by Marvin Meyer of New York, N.Y.

Make You Mine won his division with what his trainer Ron Gurfein calls his strong suit--a powerful late rally. The Self Possessed gelding trotted his last quarter in :27.2 to win by a neck over Enough Talk and Keystone Savage. Driver Brian Sears moved Keystone Savage first-over going into the last turn and last year's Peter Haughton Memorial winner took the lead, but couldn't match strides with Make You Mine in the final yards.

DC's Piggy Bank sat on the back of pacesetter Ira K, who was seeking his third straight win, and then trotted on by in the homestrethc to earn his first career victory in seven starts. The colt by Banker Hall is trained by Mickey Burke and owned by Dave Clayville.
