Maywood Park’s 2007 stake schedule for its 61st consecutive harness racing season on the Chicago circuit will have some notable changes including eliminating eliminations for the Windy City Pace.

Windy City Pace Night has been moved up a month over the track’s 2006 showcase evening and the 24th consecutive edition of the prestigious stake for the first time will not have eliminations scheduled. Instead, the eight second-season sophomore colts and geldings entered with the most money earned for 2007 at entry time will start in the final.

The $300,000 (est.) Windy City Pace—scheduled this year on Oct. 19—as usual will have a strong supporting cast of stakes on that Friday autumn evening. Once again the $120,000 (est.) Abe Lincoln for freshman pacing colts, the $110,000 Galt for sophomore trotting males and the $100,000 Cinderella for 3-year-old pacing fillies will also be contested on Windy City Pace Night, and this time they’ll be joined by a fifth stake—the $60,000 Violet final for state-bred juvenile pacing fillies.

Maywood Park will have also have a Friday this season when a trio of Illinois bred stakes will all be on the same program. On June 8 we’ll conduct the $100,000 Maywood Colt Pace and the $100,000 Filly Pace, as well as the $40,000 Cook County, the opening leg of Maywood Pacing Series for ICF 3 year olds and up.

The $40,000 Egyptian, leg two of the popular series, is on tap Friday, Oct. 5, and that fall night it will share the spotlight with the $60,500 Cardinal showdown for state-bred male pacers. The final leg of the Maywood Pacing Series—the $40,000 Associates—is on Friday, Nov. 16, when we also will race the $15,000 Giggle The Clown for second season state-bred pacing fillies. (Maywood)
