Although Walter Case Jr. is listed to drive at Plainridge Racecourse Friday, the chief racing investigator for the Massachusetts Racing Commission told harnessracing.com Tuesday morning that Case has not yet applied for a state license. The commission’s Larry Rooney said that although Plainridge management “wants to help Case get back on his feet,” the driver, who was recently released from prison after serving about four years on a felonious assault charge for stabbing his estranged wife in 2004, still must go through the license-approval process before being allowed back in the sulky. Rooney also added that “you can’t put the horse before the cart” and that being listed to drive doesn’t automatically ensure being granted a license.
