No racing at Meadows Tues.

A combination of technical problems caused by lightning and the high heat and humidity led to the cancellation of The Meadows’ Tuesday night race program. Track announcer Roger Huston said Wednesday morning that a lightning strike Sunday night caused problems to the TV system was the first problem, and then the oppressive conditions that led to horses being dehydrated before the card was scheduled to begin was the final blow.

“It was in the 90s, and the vet said that some horses in the fourth race had already shown signs of dehydration from being on Lasix, so there wasn’t a question of putting it off for another hour or something like that,” Huston explained to harnessracing.com. “We could have put up our signal but we didn’t have any signal to put up. They couldn’t repair it, as they were trying to reroute and go around the switcher (that had taken the brunt of the lightning). They couldn’t provide any video to the judges or to any off-track locations.”

Huston said he expects The Meadows to be back in action for its next scheduled race card on Thursday.
