Northfield Park lost a fixture Saturday night when the track's Director of Security, Elmer Moody, suffered a heart attack just prior to the races and passed away.
Moody, 67, a former Walton Hills, Ohio, police sergeant, started at Northfield on Jan. 1, 1970, and supervised the security and parking departments. A resident of Stow, Ohio, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Briggs; children Sandy Hudak, Lisa Kelly (Sean) and Casey Welter; and five grandchildren.
Always quick with a quip, Moody was on a first name basis with hundreds of Northfield patrons. His passing leaves a huge hole in the Northfield Park family. He will be laid to rest Wednesday at All Saints Cemetery following a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. (Northfield Park)
