Trainer Tracy Brainard told harnessracing.com Friday afternoon that because the connections don't believe the top-ranked 3-year-old filly pacer Not Enough handles turns at 100 percent, they decided to not enter in the Jugette scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, over the half-mile oval at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds.
"She's been struggling in the turns so we didn't enter her in the Jugette," explained Brainard. "We took her to the (Rood & Riddle) clinic (in Lexington, Ky.) to do a nuclear scan and complete x-rays so we could see if there was something we could do to help her on a small track. Health-wise, she's in good health."
Not Enough has a 2009 record of 13-10-1-2, with nearly $1 million in earnings. In her latest start, she finished third as the odds-on choice in the Nadia Lobell final Sept. 14 at The Red Mile, a race won by her stablemate, Showherthemoney, who has been entered in the Jugette. Included among Not Enough's victories this year was a world-record 1:49 effort in the $405,000 Mistletoe Shalee at the Meadowlands, the $591,600 Fan Hanover at Mohawk, and the $295,900 Lismore at Yonkers. Brainard said even though Not Enough won her Lismore elim and final over the half-mile track at Yonkers, as well as a pair of Ontario Sire Stakes races at Western Fair, the daughter of Grinfromeartoear still had issues with the turns.
"Even at Yonkers she really struggled in the turns; it's been an ongoing thing with her, that's why she's sitting out the Jugette," said Brainard. "She'll turn up shortly; we just didn't think it was the place to go with her."
Brainard said she expects Not Enough to start during upcoming Grand Circuit action at The Red Mile, including in the Glen Garnsey Memorial.
