The Investigation and Enforcement division of the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission yesterday conducted an Integrity Search at Harrah’s Chester racino, but no violations were found. The searches, overseen by Commission Director of Investigation and Enforcement Walt Remmert, were performed by members of the Commission’s Integrity team from the Harrisburg Executive Office, Harrah’s Chester, The Meadows, and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Security officers from the Harrah’s Chester corporate security team were also an important part of the effort. A new member of the Commission Integrity team, “Boss,” a specially-trained canine, also participated in the searches.
“I was very pleased to see that the Chester horsemen by and large are conducting themselves within the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission,” said Anton J. Leppler, the Commission’s Executive Secretary. “We of course are very grateful to Mike Tanner, Director of Racing Operations for Harrah’s Chester, for his assistance, and we greatly appreciate the splendid understanding and cooperation we have with the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association, which supports no tolerance for a non-level competitive playing field in the state. “In the future, special Integrity Searches such as this one will be performed at random at all the harness racetrack enclosures under the jurisdiction of the Commission. “Further, the Harness Commission is currently framing legislation that would extend its regulatory authority by permitting it to conduct Integrity Searches at the state’s standardbred farms, just as it can now within the racetrack enclosures.” Any questions about the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission’s Integrity program should be referred to Commission Executive Secretary Anton J. Leppler at 717.787.5196. (PHRC press release)
