Nuclear Breeze scored his fifth straight win, ninth in 14 starts this year, in a lifetime best 1:49 in a $35,000 winners-over $25,000 condition pace Saturday night at the Meadowlands.
Sent off as the even-money favorite, Nuclear Breeze took the lead on the turn for home and rebuffed PH Top Dog, who finished second by three-quarters of a length. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back to Hop Sing in third.
It was driver Brian Sears' third winner of the night and also Sears' third win sitting behind the 4-year-old son of Nuclear High - Radiant Breeze, who is owned and bred by Thomas Cooke of Rockville, Maryland. Roger Hans trains Nuclear Breeze, who has compiled a career record of 21 wins, four seconds and five thirds from 38 starts for earnings of $189,632.
Nuclear Breeze is eligible to the three-week Presidential Series at the Meadowlands which gets underway on Jan. 13 and features a $100,000 estimated final on Jan. 27. (Meadowlands)
