Tioga Downs hosted the New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old trotters on Monday night, which paid total purses of over $500,000. Five divisions for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters and seven divisions for 2-year-old filly trotters were raced.

Southwind Breeze and driver Ray Schnittker stayed perfect in two starts with a winning effort timed in 1:58.3. The time broke the track record for 2-year-old colt trotters, which Southwind Breeze set a little over one week ago. Stunt Man Hall and driver Alton Lynch Jr. finished 3 1/2 lengths back in second, and Contrary and Dan Daley finished third.

Jim Morrill Jr. steered Alpine Intruder to his sixth win in six attempts this year for trainer Brian Horlacher. The 2-year-old son of Lion King made a quarter-pole move and never looked back on his way to banking the winner’s share of the $53,601 purse and winning by more than six lengths in 1:59.4. Jack’s Reef closed late for driver William Bailey and finished second and Howard Okusko Jr. and Cyber Hall rounded out the trifecta.

Oh Oh Its Magic cruised to a four-length victory in 1:59.2 for driver Morrill, who posted a driving triple on the card. The 2-year-old daughter of Credit Winner is trained by Carl Gillespie for owner Carolyn Atherton of Bronxville, N.Y. Won An Done finished second for trainer-driver John Stark Jr. and Julieannie hung on and finished third for driver Ray Schnittker. (Tioga Downs)
