Two-year-old filly pacers competed in the $185,236 New York Sire Stakes on Thursday night at Yonkers, with 31 fillies taking their best shot at $46,309 for each division. Both Truly A Treasure (Jim Morrill Jr.) and Shaky Hanover (Matt Kakaley) did their damage from off the pace. The former, a daughter of Art Major, wound up second-over from post position six before winning by 1 1/4 lengths in 2:02. Pardon My French (Alan Davis) closed well to snatch second, with Dee's Art Girl (George Dennis) third.
For Truly A Treasure, trained by Linda Toscano for owner Ken Jacobs, she returned $2.80 for her third win four first-season tries. The exacta paid $23.40, with the triple returning $83.
Shaky Hanover, a Bettor's Delight miss who has been her own enemy--breaks in her last two starts--was gingerly handled from the outset. Away from outside post 7, she methodically moved toward the leader, Swap Blue Chip (Jason Bartlett), before the (1:00.4) half, then engaged that one in and out of the final turn.
"Shaky" showed some moxie late, getting the measure of "Swap" and holding off a very wide career debut of Moving Art (Gates Brunet). Shaky Hanover was a schnozz better than Swap Blue Chip in 2:00.1, with Moving Art beaten a half-length.
For Shaky Hanover, trained by Jim Perry for co-owners Jack and William Heinz, she returned $3.30 for her second win in four '09 tries. The exacta paid $9.20, with the triple returning $29.
