The New York Sire Stakes season got underway at Buffalo Raceway on Sunday. Three divisions of 3-year-old filly pacers competed over the half-mile oval, with each division racing for more than $53,000.
In the first division Androvette, owned by John DiSomma and Taylor Gower, set a lifetime best of 1:59.2. Driver Pat Berry was happy sitting in the middle of the pack until the stretch when he went wide and cruised home to the finish. Truly A Treasure, the pacesetter throughout the race, was awarded second as Angel From Above was disqualified for interference at the five-eighths pole. V’La Faire finished third.
Regular Buffalo driver Jim McNeight guided Tia Maria Hanover to the winner’s circle in the second division. With Lady Major and Paper Princess dueling early McNeight sat in the two hole through the first half and pulled out on the backstretch before the three-quarter pole. Down the stretch it was a race for second as Tally Ho cruised by eventual third place finisher Chatty Kathy.
In the final division local horse It’s Only Roni took home the $26,527 winner's share of the purse in a photo over favorite Barks Like A Dog. Buffalo’s leading driver Jack Flanigen got It's Only Roni in front of Barks Like A Dog by a nose. Delightful Syd recovered from a break at the start to finish in the show spot. (Buffalo)
