Peter Goold, Executive Director of the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund, has announced estimated purses for the New York Sire Stakes program in 2007, including increases for the New York-Bred Late Closer Series and the New York County Fairs. The estimated purses for New York Sire Stakes legs at each track are as follow:
These estimates include approximate starting fees. Actual purses may differ depending on the number of horses entered and number of divisions required. Each division of the New York Sire Stakes finals will be worth $150,000 and, beginning this year, horses will no longer be required to pay the $3,000 starting fee. The New York State Fair events, to be raced at Tioga Downs, will carry estimated purses of $100,000 divided.
Legs of the New York-Bred Late Closer Series will now race for a guaranteed purse of $9,000 plus starting fees in each division, up from the base purse of $7,500 last year. This represents a 20 percent increase in purses. Sire Stakes eligible horses can enter the Late Closer program. 3-year-olds must be a non-winner of $20,000 lifetime and 2-year-olds must be a non-winner of $7,500. The earnings cutoff and nomination deadlines are June 25 for 3-year-olds and August 3 for 2-year-olds. Each of the 22 New York County Fairs will also be receiving an additional $500 for their purse pool. Estimated purses are $4,600 for 2-year-old trotters and pacers and $5,000 for 3-year-old trotters and pacers.
