"A pleasing response." That's what Tioga and Vernon Downs Vice-President and Director of Racing Greg DeFrank had to say about the nominations to the six Early Closing Events to be raced at both New York tracks.

DeFrank said, "Twenty mares have nominated to the "Miss Versatility Trot", a unique event that has legs at Tioga, Vernon, and will culminate with the Final at Delaware, Ohio on Jugette Day." Miss Versatility nominees include million-dollar winner Housethatruthbuilt, New Jersey Sires Stakes Champion Ticket To Glide, and Pink Ribbons, the sentimental mare whose owners donate a percentage of her winnings to Breast Cancer research.

"We had a good response to our 2-year-old events with 79 nominating to the filly trot, 55 in the colt trot, 54 in the filly pace, and 46 in the colt pace. We had a small but select number of pacing mares nominated to the Artiscape and we will see how many mares make the sustaining payment," continued DeFrank.

Jason Settlemoir, Vice-President of Racing Operations and Simulcast said, "Jeff Gural, the driving force behind Tioga and Vernon Downs, wants to make a difference in racing and these events are just the beginning of what we hope to accomplish."
