Through the first 13 races of the 15-race card Friday (Nov. 20), Chris Oakes picked up three more training wins to wrap up the training title at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs with just one more racing card remaining.

Oakes had a lead of eight wins over Carmine Fusco, his nearest rival, coming into the Friday evening action. Oakes had three winners in the winner’s circle with Hit Away, Sky Tantrum and Super Conway while Fusco’s victory came with Samacamawacky Brown.

In the Universal Training Rating standings, he had that category wrapped up with a .483 percentage going into Friday night’s card.
Joe Pavia, Jr., the track’s leading driver, was in the sulky with all three of the Oakes horses Friday evening.

Sky Tantrum, a five-year-old gelding, paced the mile in 1:51.1 for a new seasonal mark in a non-winners of $13,250 last five starts or 12 extended pari-mutuel races life condition. It was the fastest mile of the evening.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs will close out its 2009 harness racing season Saturday afternoon with a 16-race card. Pavia, Jr., Jim Morrill, Jr., track’s leading percentage driver, and Oakes will be honored at this time. (Pocono)
