Delmarvanow.com is reporting that this summer’s racing season at Ocean Downs is in question, as the track owners and local horsemen disagree on if and where to hold a meet while construction on the slots facility continues. Meanwhile, county officials say Ocean Downs must host at least one race by August or risk forfeiting the zoning exception that will allow slots operations on the site. "If they don't race for a period of 12 consecutive months, then the special exception that allows gambling is abandoned," said Ed Tudor, Director of the Worcester County Department of Development Review and Permitting. The racetrack is allowed at the facility as a special exception to the site's agricultural zoning. Slot machine gambling would be an accessory use to that, Tudor said.
