Bill O’Donnell, who replaced Jim Whelan as president of the Ontario Harness Horse Association (OHHA) four months ago, resigned the position Thursday following a vote by OHHA board members that approved supporting Whelan’s request for financial backing in his fight against Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG). Whelan has refused to sign a WEG access agreement which must be signed by all horsemen before they can race at either Mohawk or Woodbine. Whelan had resigned his position as OHHA president following unsuccessful attempts at having association members boycott the Woodbine entry box due to a contract dispute. The OHHA has been racing without a contract with WEG for several months now. On the heels of O’Donnell’s resignation, OHHA directors Jen Duncan and Doug Hie did the same. Their actions were then followed by the resignations of directors Colleen Belore, Dave Byron, John Thomson, Bob Young, Paul Rashotte and Bob Montgomery.
