The top French trotters, including 2007 and 2008 Prix d'Amerique winner Offshore Dream, raced in the Prix Jamin/RMC at Hippodrome Paris-Vincennes on Friday night, and there was an upset as Otello Pierji, a son of Buvetier d'Aunou, won the race.
Offshore Dream, a son of Reve d'Udon, had Sebastian Ernault in the bike. His trainer-driver, Pierre Levesque, was suppossed to drive Meaulnes du Corta in the race, but that horse was scratched due to injury. Nevertheless, Levesque had to stay on the sidelines.
Another interesting entry was Oiseau de Feu, who was Jean Michel Bazire's drive for trainer Fabrice Souloy. With a good effort, he was suppossed to get a wildcard for the Olympic Trot in Gothenburg, Sweden, on April 19.
It looked until the middle of the homestretch that the leader, Lourmarin (Rubis de la Noe), might win för Pierre Vercruysse. Oiseau de Feux, who had reached Lourmarin's outside, also appeared to have a shot, but as it turned out they both tired in the final strides. Otello Pierji shot out of the three hole late and won the race with a sudden burst of speed, paying 430 to 10 for Michel Lenoir.
The winner was timed in a mile rate of 2:02.1 over 3,525 meters, which is more than two miles.
Offshore Dream never really contested the race and finished far behind the winner.
