Published reports state that the Warren County Fair Board is considering building two smaller barns to replace the large Barn 16 that was destroyed in a Dec. 5 fire that killed two caretakers and 45 horses at Lebanon Raceway.
The county would receive $717,747 in insurance funds if it builds a barn the same size as the 80-stall Barn 16, or $532,421 if it decides to build something similar. An estimated cost for two smaller barns, which would be about 6,400 square feet and not contain stalls, is about $400,000. Without stalls, the facility could then be used for other horse show events and storage during the winter.
Although it is nearly two months after the fire, no official cause has been given and the state fire marshal's office says it is still an active, ongoing investigation.
