Ohio Governor Ted Strickland announced at a press conference Tuesday that he would veto the bill that will allow Instant Racing machines at racetracks in the state if it reached his desk, and that he is asking the legislature to instead ban nearly all forms of gambling.
The bill to allow the Instant Racing machines has already passed the state Senate and is nearing a final vote in a House committee. Last year Ohio voters defeated a measure that would allow casino gambling at racetrcks, and Strickland said the addition of the Instant Racing machines would be against the will of those voters.
"We are concerned that this is a problem for Ohio and that what is happening is contrary to the expressed wishes of Ohio voters by overwhelming numbers," said Strickland at the press conference.
