Ronald “Ron” Bateson, a driver-trainer, owner and a county fair racing official for nearly 45 years, died Dec. 5, 2009, in Adrian, Mich. He was 72.
Mr. Bateston, a Toledo native, was Raceway Park’s leading driver in the spring of 1975. He began his career in 1966 and remained active in the sport up to the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen; children, Chris (Cubby), Scott (Norma), Beverly (Bob) Baidel, Greg (Robyn) and Todd (Kari); sister, Marilyn (Denny) Bangerter; brothers, William (Vicky) and Douglas (Susan); grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Justin, Jordan and Jarrett; and great-grandson, Charlie.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield, Mich. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 7, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. (USTA)
