Oldtimers win at Pompano

Ultimate Sundance, the 11-year-old wonder horse owned by Mike Biel of Ft. Lauderdale, once again proved his class by winning the $10,000 Open Handicap Trot at Pompano Park on Wednesday night in 1:56.4. The son of Ultimate Kosmos, driven by Bruce Ranger, won for the eighth time in 23 starts this year and sent his career bounty vaulting over the $400,000 with the win—his 66th in 249 lifetime starts.

Among his victims were stablemate U Toe The Bike, handled by Daryl Bier, and Damon Runyon, with Wally Hennessey in the bike.

In other action, the old war horse Source Of Luck, now 12, won for the 56th time in his illustrious career by overcoming the nine post to score a gutsy win in 1:57.3 for Daryl Bier. Owned by John Hallett of Margate, Fla., the gelded son of Sorcerer Hanover clocked panels of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:28 before holding off the late surging Beer Thirty, driven by Matt Kakaley, to score by a neck.

Source Of Luck has now earned $533,633 in his 340 lifetime starts. Even more remarkable is the fact that he has won at Pompano Park for 10 straight years beginning with his first victory here way back in 1997. (From Pompano Park)
