Yannick Gingras gave Omen Hanover a perfect two-hole trip Wednesday (April 14) to emerge the winner of the $28,000 open handicap pace for fillies and mares. Leaving from the one post, Omen Hanover and Gingras followed No. 7 Flirtiscape (George Napolitano Jr.) right around the track with the opening quarter timed in 27.3, half in 56.3 and three-quarters in 1:24.1 before tipping out and outpacing the 3-5 favorite to the wire. Omen Hanover, trained by Nick Surick, stopped the timer in 1:52.1 and won by a length and a quarter over No. 2 Personal Ad (Jim Morrill Jr.), who shot the passing lane to nip Flirtiscape for the second spot. A six-year-old Western Hanover mare, Omen Hanover won for the second time in 2010 on her 12th start. In a $5,000 claiming pace for horses, colts and geldings, Artful Sky (Jim Taggart Jr.) worked out a trip and won for the first time in 12 starts this year. Chaco Hanover (Andrew McCarthy) finished second and paid $27.40 for a $2 wager with 9-2 Art Aficionado getting third in this race. The Trifecta combination of 1-2-7 returned $4,086.40. Brett Smith trains Artful Sky, who left from the rail and sat third for most of the race before taking to the passing lane to get the win in 1:56.1.(Pocono)
