Michael Polansky’s One Awsome Lavec halted a nine-race losing streak on Monday when taking the co-featured $5,500 non-winners trot at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway in 1:59.4, giving trainer Dave Spagnola his third victory of the matinee program. Driven from post one by Brian Cross, One Awsome Lavec settled comfortably in the pocket as Primo trotted on the lead through moderate fractions of :28.3, :58.4, and 1:30. As the field moved through the final turn, One Awsome Lavec was angled to the outside to make a bold charge towards the front, wrestling the lead away from Primo (John Stark Jr.) at the top of the stretch before sprinting clear of his rivals to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths. One Awsome Lavec returned $5.70, $2.10, and $2.50 for the victory. Bigpepper (Frank Coppola Jr.) paid $2.10 and $2.20 when finishing second, while Primo brought in $3.60 for third. Spagnola tallied his first win of the afternoon when prevailing with Stone Wheels ($7.30) in race three, before returning to the winner’s circle four races later with Indian Crazy Horse ($9.80).
