One Awesome Master tied the track mark of 1:55.4 for sophomore trotting geldings in winning a $27,100 division of the Ohio Governor’s Cup at Scioto Downs on Friday night. Sam “Chip” Noble steered the son of Master Lavec to a 4-1/2 length victory. The Governor’s Cup is part of the Ohio State Fair races which continue at Scioto on Saturday night. One Awesome Master led all the way and easily disposed of Bologna and Looking To Score. It was the seventh win of the season for the Master Lavec gelding who is trained by Robert Beauregard for B. Statile, K. Clairmont, D. Kaiser, and W. Johnson. The other Governor’s Cup division went in 1:57 to Bill Sanders’ Sand Wyndham over Jon Win and Michaelrowyourboat. Matt Kakaley drove the son of Pegasus Spur for trainer Tye Loy. It was his sixth win in 13 starts. There were three divisions of the First Lady Pace for 3-year-old pacing fillies, two of them producing 1:54 miles. Kay’s Yankee Lou (Yankee Cruiser) scored in 1:54 by a neck she shot up the open stretch to overtake Cruzin Inya Jammys for Aaron Merriman. Favored Sugar Scoot Brown was third. It was her fourth win in 10 starts this season. She’s owned by the Gwinnie Lou Stable of Xenia and James Davis of Lebanon. Gadget was a 1:54 winner by a head over Perfect M Forever for Matt Kakaley. Again, the favorite, Jane’s Big Gal, was third. The Jet Laag filly is owned by Dominic Staffrey of Canfield, Ohio. It was only her second win in 14 starts in 2008 and she dropped her career mark by three seconds. C R Hope (Full Of Fun) took the final division of the First Lady in a blanket finish over Coras Grace and Big Sapphire in 1:55. Dave Repine drove her to her sixth win in 13 starts for owners Charlene Joliff and Regina Hale. (Scioto Downs)
