Onehotvett wins on cold night in Toronto

Onehotvett braved the frigid temperatures and nine other rivals to post an upset victory in Thursday night's $47,400 Blizzard Pacing Series Final for three and four-year-old fillies and mares at Woodbine Racetrack.

Despite a victory in last week's second leg of the series, the four-year-old daughter of Goliath Bayama - Vals Vett was let go at odds of 17-1 in the final.

Driver Jack Moiseyev had Onehotvett leaving hard from post nine this week but the pair found themselves parked in seventh position as the field reached the first panel in :27.1. They were, however, able to follow the cover of Keystone Wendy who was also unable to find a seat in the early going.

As the field passed the half, Designated Leader took command and had Keystone Wendy moving up alongside to challenge with Onehotvett following on her back. Things remained that way as the field hit the third marker in 1:27.1.

As the field turned for home, the first-over challenger began to tire so Moiseyev rolled his charge three-wide to go after the pacesetter.

Despite being parked the entire mile, Onehotvett had plenty left for the stretch drive and took the deep stretch lead before holding off a host of challengers for the win in 1:56.4.

B M Mcw rallied in between horses to pick up the place spot with Katpandu coming on to round out the top three. The winner returned a hefty $36.60 on the nose.

It was just the third career win for the Randy Fife trainee who is owned by Gerry and Matthew Sparling and Richard Fife of Ontario. The lion's share of the purse increased her career bankroll to just over $96,000. (WEG)
