One More Laugh and Pang Shui win PASS

Return Home
August 28, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

OneMore Laugh and Pang Shui, both driven by Tim Tetrick and both trained by Ray Schnittker, won the first two divisions of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Friday (August 28) night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Each race carried purses of $68,000 plus.
It was a spectacular win by One More Laugh because the two-year-old Mcardle gelding went on a break after leaving the gate and fell far behind The Village Rusty, driven by Howard Parker. Opening panel went in 26.4 and half in 56 with One More Laugh still in the back of the pack but this time within striking distance.
Down the backstretch it was This Dragonflyzz (Andrew McCarty) leading the way at the three-quarter pole in 1:23.4 with One More Laugh third on the outside and stalking. One More Laugh got into high gear coming down the stretch and won the race in 1:52.4 with We Will See (Dave Palone) four and one-half lengths back with third-place going to Mysoontobe (Yannick Gingras)
All this was taking place with rain falling and a track listed as sloppy.
Tetrick said One More Laugh is one of the fastest two-year-old pacers he has ever driven.
“My horse was just fooling around leaving the gate,” he said. “He just wasn’t into the race but once we got going he was something else.”
Ironically, One More Laugh’s only loss thus far came at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs when the horse went on a break during Grand Circuit Week in the W.N. Reynolds Memorial Stake in July and finished fifth. One More Laugh has now won four straight after that start.
Pang Shui, who now has won three of six starts for Schnittker, got away third from the two hole in the very next race with Indelible Hanover (McCarthy) on top with first split reading 27.2. Before the clubhouse turn, Pang Shui assumed the lead and went the rest of the way, taking the seven-horse field to the half in 56.1 and three-quarters in 1:24.2 before also winning in 1:52.4 with Sand Savage (Brett Miller) second and Indelible Hanover third.
This was a two and one-half length win for Pang Shui.
Open handicap pace, carrying a purse of $28,750, Friday evening was captured by AllAmerican Daddy, reined by Tetrick in the time of 1:51.3. Tetrick had AllAmerican Daddy sitting second, third and fourth throughout the race before coming three deep down the stretch to win over Andreoli Hanover (Yannick Gingras) and Sheer Brilliance (Sean Bier).
