Express Ball N has found the fast track to the winner’s circle at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, taking the featured $17,000 Fillies & Mares Open Thursday for the second consecutive start.

This week, Express Ball N had no problem finding the top, easily grabbing the lead just past the firsty turn. Trainer-driver Ron Cushing was merely along for the ride as the classy 5 year old proved why she’s the one to beat, winning easily in 1:58, a new lifetime mark.

The real race occurred behind Cushing where longshot Maranello N and Kyle DiBenedetto struggled unsuccessfully to hold off a last minute surge from Jason MacDougall and Cleaning Lady.

Owned by John Brophy of Castine, Maine, Express Ball N has five wins in five starts this year, boasting a bankroll of more than $25,000. (Saratoga)

Thursday night was also a very good night for trainer/driver Henry Westbrook III. Besides steering two members of his stable to victory, Westbrook brought Could Be home in the finale, coming from nowhere to blow up the toteboard at 33-1 in a photo finish.
