Joseph Di Scala and Cynthia Lynn Massari’s On The Glass kicked away racing out of the turn and held off a fast-closing Tug River Princess to win the $248,000 Lady Liberty final for free-for-all mares in 1:49. Dreamfair Eternal, sent off as the 7-5 favorite, finished third.
Yellow Diamond fired from post eight when the gate folded, posting a :26.3 first quarter as Not Enough (Tim Tetrick) and On The Glass (Yannick Gingras) tracked the early leader. Tetrick pushed to the front on the backside, flashing past the half in :53.2 and the three quarter pole in 1:21.4. Gingras, out and moving third at the half, advanced to second at three quarters and commanded the field rolling out of the turn.
Tug River Princess was in high gear for John Campbell in the stretch, but had too much ground to make up before the wire.
The victory was the 11th seasonal score for On The Glass. The four-year-old Art Major-Abbey Won mare equaled her lifetime best, set earlier this year, in the performance. Bred by John Glassford and Linda Glassford, the mare is trained by Ron Burke. The win pushed her career earnings to $484,153. On The Glass paid $11.40, $5.60 and 2.60.
