ORC on Waxman case

Return Home
April 05, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) has confirmed that owner Daniel Waxman, who has raced such prominent horses as the pacing mare Loyal Opposition, could be facing a five-year suspension, $100,000 fine, and disqualification of horses that raced under his ownership.

A spokesperson for the ORC has told harnessracing.com, “The activities of Daniel Waxman and Vandalay Racing were investigated, and Daniel Waxman was subsequently served with a Proposed Order to suspend his license as an owner for five years, fined $100,000 and horses under his ownership disqualified. Mr. Daniel Waxman appealed this ruling. Lawyers for the commission are providing documents to counsel for Daniel Waxman. A hearing date is expected to be set sometime thereafter.”

According to U.S. Trotting Association records, Loyal Opposition had been racing for owner Robert Waxman until the ownership was transferred to his son, Daniel Waxman, on May 14, 2004. Since that time she has earned $1,466,611, although only part of that money came from purses earned in Ontario.

In 2005 Loyal Opposition won the $331,500 Breeders Crown at Mohawk. That money has been held in escrow by a New Jersey court because of the ORC investigation. She also won the $316,910 Milton at Mohawk in 2005, another major victory that helped propel her to Dan Patch honors as the 2005 Older Pacing Mare of the Year by the U.S. Harness Writers Association.
