Osborne’s Gypsy, the lone Ohio Triple Crown winner of 2006 and 2-Year-Old Pacing Filly of last year, was but one of the stars on Scioto Down’s Memorial Day matinee card. The On The Attack filly, driven by Brett Miller, scored in a lifetime-best 1:53.3 for her ninth victory in 10 lifetime starts. She’s trained by Eric Hamlet of Jerome T. Osborne of Osborne’s Gyspy’s margin of victory was three lengths in a $20,000 Ohio Sire Stakes (OSS) event. She also won her The draw of Sire Stakes action, coupled with Miller, who had five winners for the day, steered Nip N Attack (like Osborne’s Gypsy, a daughter of On The Attack) to an identical clocking of 1:53.3 in another pacing split. Nip N Attack, owned by Jay Corey, David Habeger and trainer Virgil Morgan Jr., was third behind Osborne’s Gypsy in Appealling Sammi, a daughter of Nobleland Sam owned by Stephen Sexton of A pair of “Misses”–Miss Color Chip and Miss Snippy Queen–put on a battle royale in the stretch of their trotting division, with Miss Color Chip and Don Irvine Jr. prevailing by a neck in 1:58.2. The Chip Chip Hooray daughter, trained and owned by Verlin Yoder of The finish was just as tight in the opening trot division, as Belle Lavec closed relentlessly to nail Winnie The Who by a neck in 1:58.4. John Melsheimer trains and drives the Master Lavec filly for the Mel Rose Stable of BV’s Sister is the only trotting winner that had breathing room at the finish. The Big Victory filly, trained by Morgan for Barnett Zimmerman LLC of Deerfield, Ill., took the lead at the start.
