Oscar Oscar coupled as heavy favorite in Youthful final

He proved the buzz was not misplaced when he romped to a 6 1/2-length victory last week, in the second round of Youthful Pacing Series action at Woodbine. Now recent American import, Oscar Oscar, is rated the early 3-5 favorite (as part of a double entry with Power Off, both owned by Bulletproof Enterprises and trained by Tracy Brainard) going into the $56,200 Youthful final Friday night, and is expected to have everything his own way once again.

The 3-year-old son of Western Terror is lightly raced, having only three starts in total under his belt. But he is unbeaten in those three starts, two of which were at the Meadowlands in March. The transition to Brainard’s barn, from Justin Lebo’s, is something he seems to have taken in stride, and with forecasted weather conditions for Friday night being much more favorable than those the Youthful competitors had to endure last Friday, and post position two to boot, the stars all seem to be aligning behind Oscar Oscar.

If he is likely to be challenged, look for it to come from Bob McIntosh trainee, Its A Good Thing, who will be gunning for a series sweep. Last week’s sloppy track clearly didn’t suit Its A Good Thing (Western Maverick–Sammartha Stewart), who tired badly in the stretch but held on for the win in his series split;  more hospitable conditions might see him back in the form he displayed on week one, when  he delivered a :27.4 closing quarter to win in 1:53.3.
