On Thursday night at Mohawk Racetrack four Ontario Sires Stakes Gold eliminations took place for two-year-old trotting fillies. The top two finishers from each elimination advance to the $130,000 final plus two third place finishers. A mild upset occurred in the first elimination at Beach Party As stopped the timer in 1:59.3. The Kadabra filly left the gate from post six for driver Peter Wallinder and struck the front before the opening panel of :29.3. Racetime favourite Luvumeanit made a break in stride going into the first turn. As the field marched towards the half, Beach Party As was attacked on the outside from Harlow Seelster and driver Jason Brewer. Brewer and Harlow Seelster took the field past the half in 1:00.1 and three-quarters in 1:30.1. Julie Labelle and driver George Zirnis launched a first over attack around the final turn but was unable to advance. Down the stretch Beach Party As attacked Harlow Seelster and was victorious for trainer Anette Lorentzon. Harlow Seelster held on for second with Shez So Striking and driver Robert Shepherd finishing third. It was a maiden breaking effort for Beach Party As as she lifts her freshman earnings to $20,000 for owner Aci Scuteri. She paid $15.90 for the victory. Enchantment delivered in the second elimination for trainer Bill Companion. The daughter of Angus Hall was taken off the gate from post one for driver Keith Oliver and positioned fifth through the opening panel of :29 set by Oh Sweet Baby and driver Mario Baillargeon. Oh Sweet Baby continued to lead her rivals past the half in :59.1 and three-quarters in 1:29.1. As the rookie trotters marched past the final turn, Oliver engineered a second over attack behind Jody Jamieson and Quantum Victoria. Down the stretch, Enchantment used a :29 final quarter to win in 1:58.1 over South Bay with Oh Sweet Baby finishing third. The victory pushed Enchantment’s earnings to $40,000 for the Common Sense Stable, and Kor Stable Limited. She paid $6.00 in the mild upset. Eagle Canada posted a major upset in the third elimination for the Gregg and Doug McNair combination. The father-son team scored a 25-1upset with the daughter of Kadabra. She paid $55.00 for the victory. Extraordinaire and Marys Out Crusin left the gate alertly with Extraordinaire gaining control of the lead before the opening quarter of 29.1 with Marys Out Crusin right behind her. McNair guided his charge from off the pace as Extraordinaire took her rivals past the half in a slow 1:00.2 and three-quarters in 1:30.3.McNair was positioned third over around the final turn. As the field turned for home, Eagle Canada was well back but exploded down the lane to win in a photo finish. Dancin Darling, who was first over around the final turn finished a strong second with Extraordinaire fading to third. Eagle Canada established her first career victory with earnings of $23,325 for owner Frank Dettore. Peach Martini capitalized on a two hole trip to score as the favourite in the final elimination. Driver/trainer Rick Zeron left alertly from post five and guided his charge to the front at the quarter in :28.2. As the field headed towards the half, Zeron was attacked by My Whispering Eye and driver Anthony MacDonald. My Whispering Eye and MacDonald posted honest middle half fractions of :58.3 and 1:28.1. Peach Martini used a ground saving trip pass My Whispering Eye late in the stretch the secure her spot in the final. My Whispering Eye stayed for second with Stewardess and driver Steve Condren finishing third. Peach Martini advanced her career earnings to $99,000 for owners Rick Zeron Stables and Rojan Stables, Stephen Waldman and Michael Katz. She paid $4.70 for the win.
