OSS Gold Elims to Laddie & Arch Madness

October 19, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Heavy favourites Laddie and Arch Madness both captured their respective OSS Gold eliminations tonight at Woodbine Racetrack.

Laddie scored narrowly for Paul MacDonell in 1:54.3 while Arch Madness dominated his rivals in his contest for Steve Condren in 1:55.2.

In the opening split, Laddie took advantage of the inside rail position and was hustled away to sit third through a quick opening quarter of :27.4 on the blustery night. As the field straightened up towards the half, MacDonell sent the son of Angus Hall - Victory Dreamer up after the lead and cleared past the second marker in :57.2.

Laddie took the field past three-quarters in 1:25.3 and then used a :29-second final quarter to hold off a charging San Pail for a nose decision. It was more than four lengths back to third-place finisher Cayenne Turbo.

The win was the fourth this season in 13 starts for the Paula Wellwood trainee. She also owns the trotter who went over $450,000 in seasonal earnings with the tally.

Arch Madness, who was coming off a pair of second-place finishes behind Donato Hanover in both heats of this year’s Kentucky Futurity, took charge of the race early for driver Steve Condren and never looked back, scoring decisively over Tonight Aas and a closing Flirtin Man.

It was the seventh win in 17 tries this season for the son of Balanced Image - Armbro Archer who is trained by Trond Smedshammer for owners Marc Goldberg and Willow Pond Llc. of New York. The victory boosted his seasonal bankroll to more than $340,000.

Here’s the field for next Friday’s OSS Gold Final:

2. Hoopie
3. Flirtin Man
4. Snazzy Hot Rod
5. Tonight AAS
6. San Pail
